Veneers

Sellwood-Moreland and Portland OR

A perfectly white and straight smile does not have to be something that you only dream about having. While not everyone was born with perfectly even and dazzling teeth, for those of us who may have mild cosmetic imperfections, porcelain veneers are a great option for improving the appearance of your teeth without requiring intensive procedures or excessive waiting. We here at Whole Health Dentistry are pleased to offer porcelain veneers to our patients to give them a chance at having a confident smile once again!

How Can Porcelain Veneers Benefit Me?

Comprised of a porcelain sheath that is directly bonded to your front teeth, porcelain veneers are a fantastic option for our patients who have mild cosmetic flaws and are looking for a fast and visible improvement to their smile.

If you suffer from the embarrassment of slightly crooked teeth, stains or discoloration, mild chips, slight gaps between your teeth, or teeth that are somewhat misshapen, porcelain veneers can give you an opportunity to finally have a straight and beautiful smile. Even mild damage to your enamel, caused by acid erosion (generally caused by acid reflux), can be improved with dental veneers.

Getting porcelain veneers is quite easy and painless and can be completed in as little as two appointments. During the initial appointment, we will begin gently removing a small amount of your tooth. That roughs the surface up and gives the veneer a surface to cling on to. Most of our patients do not even require anesthesia for dental veneers! We will then take impressions of your teeth, then send them out to our laboratory to have your veneers fabricated. In the meanwhile, we will fit you with temporary veneers to protect your teeth and keep your smile attractive.

Once your veneers return from the lab, we will affix them over your existing teeth in our office. We will start by removing your temporary veneers and cleaning both your teeth and the veneers and drying them thoroughly. We will then lightly etch the surface of the veneer to help ensure a good fit, then we apply dental concrete to it and place it over your existing tooth. The veneer is then cured for sixty seconds with a special light to ensure that it stays in place.

If taken care of properly, a dental veneer can last you for quite a long time. While they do resist staining, they can still sustain stains from foods like coffee and wine, so take measures to protect them. Continue to brush and floss your teeth, as usual, brushing twice a day (for two minutes per session, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste with fluoride) and flossing every night. After your procedure, you can expect to notice a small amount of sensitivity or discomfort, but that should subside shortly. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help with any discomfort.
